Laurie Lacey's Wild World of Plants
I am pleased to offer this web resource on traditional
plant medicines and natural cures. The majority of
plant remedies and herbal medicines discussed on this
site, were learned from Mi'kmaq elders. I thank them for their
teachings from the bottom of my heart. I hope this site is
rewarding for all of you who share an interest and passion
for wellness, healing, nature, and a love for Mother Earth.

Black Spirit: The Way of The Crow

This chronicles the five year friendship between Laurie and his crow friend, Spirit (Black Spirit). The book is an eclectic mix of anecdotes, gleaned from his crow diary, letters from other crow enthusiasts, impressions about crows in the wild, and facts and folklore from crow literature, warmly supported by the author's illuminating ink drawings.

Micmac Medicines: Remedies and Recollections

The book explores the uses of plant medicines by the Mi'kmaq Indians of the Atlantic provinces of Canada. It discusses uses for approximately 70 plants which are found growing in Eastern North America, as well as many other areas of the North American continent. Also, this book contains short stories and accounts of the author's efforts to document plant medicine knowledge, and of his experiences in the fields and forests of Atlantic Canada.

Field Walks, Workshops, Lectures and Services:

The Medicine Maker Way Workshop (re-connecting to the natural world for health & well-being)

Discover the use of "Special Places" in nature to enhance relaxation, meditation, natural healing and wellness. Enjoy the beauty of a "Medicine Walk," and the use of plants and trees as allies in a self discovery and meditative journey. Begin to recognize your personal medicine and your plant/tree spirit allies as you explore the "Medicine Maker" way.

I require a minimum of four participants to do a workshop. The fee includes the Medicine Walk book which will be used in my workshops. Also, it includes mileage fees for local workshops (Within a 75km radius of Bridgewater). The fee for each participant is $45 for a one day workshop, and $75 for a two day workshop. I require travel and lodging expense fees, for workshops in other areas of Nova Scotia, or the Maritime provinces. My fees will differ for workshops in other areas of North America or elsewhere. However, they will always be reasonable, and the result of consultation with the hosting Center or Group.

Traditional Plant Medicine Workshop

This workshop teaches traditional uses of plants and trees as medicines from a cultural perspective. You will learn from actual plant & tree samples, from a plant medicine field walk, and from a slide presentation. The workshop can be arranged for a half day, or full day.

I require a minimum of three participants to do a local workshop. The fee for each participant at a local workshop (50 km radius of Bridgewater, Nova Scotia) is $20 for the half day workshop, and $35 for the full day workshop. For workshops outside the "local" area, a travel fee will apply, depending on distance (in some cases, lodging fees). As well, the minimum number of participants for a workshop will differ, depending on distance.

Travelling Medicine Lecture (information, stories and plant slides)

Personal stories and information on the traditional Native uses of plants and trees as medicines and natural cures (primarily the Mi'kmaq of Atlantic Canada). This is a fascinating presentation, of interest to people from many walks of life. The travelling medicine lecture may be booked for special events, meetings, or conventions.

The fee rate is $50 for Lunenburg County; $60 for Queens County, $75 to $150 for other areas of mainland Nova Scotia, plus travel expenses; $200 for Cape Breton, plus travel expenses. Fees for presentations in other areas of Atlantic Canada are similar to that for Cape Breton, although travel expenses may increase, depending on location and other circumstances. Fees for presentations in other areas of Canada, or elsewhere, will be negotiated on an individual event basis.

Plant/Tree Medicine Field Walks

Enjoy a guided field walk where you can learn about Native uses of plants as foods, medicines, and teas. For Fee Rates Click Here.

An extra fee will apply, when I have to travel to do field walks or medicine walks in other areas of Nova Scotia, or elsewhere. I always make certain that this extra fee is quite reasonable. Good medicine always!

I will perform research on a contract basis on a variety of topics relating to plants in culture, folklore, and medicine.
